Background

Dino Acconci was born in Macau in 1972, the identical twin of his brother Julio. Their father, Oseo Acconci, was an Italian architect long resident in Macau, and their mother is of the Karen people of Myanmar. The brothers were born and raised in Macau, attended Yuet Wah College, and also lived for a time in Italy; that multilingual, multicultural upbringing shaped the border-crossing musical path he would follow.

Career

I. The birth of Soler and a Hong Kong debut

The brothers formed the rock duo Soler, named after an honorific from their mother's Karen family. In 2005 Soler debuted in Hong Kong, where their first album Stereo drew attention for a style blending rock, soul and folk, and they won the Best New Group gold award at Commercial Radio's Ultimate Song Chart awards. They followed with Intuition (2005), X2 (2007), Canto (2009), Vivo (2010) and Evolution (2018). Within the duo, Dino is a lead vocalist and guitarist.

II. Reaching beyond

Multilingual in Italian, English, Cantonese and Mandarin, Dino has in recent years settled in Vancouver, Canada, where he continues to write and perform and takes part in Chinese-language music festivals — carrying the music of Macau and Soler onto North American stages.
